The National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicted that this Saturday, December 24, there will be extraordinary rains and low temperatures caused by cold front number 19.
In a statement issued by the National Water Commission (With water) it was detailed that the arctic air mass that drives the cold front 19 will maintain this weekend the “icy wave in much of Mexicoas well as an intense North event with high waves on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, the Isthmus and the Gulf of Tehuantepec”.
During its journey, front number 19 will cause extraordinary rains in Veracruz and Tabasco; while in Chiapas “torrential” rains will be recorded.
According to him NMS prognosis there will also be “intense rains” in Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatán, as well as “very heavy” rains in Oaxaca.
Meanwhile, in the mountains of San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Puebla, Tlaxcala, the State of Mexico and Mexico City, a possible fall of sleet is expected.
The National Metereological Service reported that minimum temperatures of -15 to -10 degrees Celsius with frosts are estimated in mountainous areas of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango and Nuevo León.
In the mountains of San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas, temperatures of -10 to -5 degrees Celsius are expected.
While in the mountains of Aguascalientes, Mexico City, the States of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Puebla, Querétaro, Sonora, Tlaxcala and Veracruz they will have an estimated temperature of -5 to 0 degrees Celsius with frost.
In elevated regions of Baja California, Chiapas, Morelos, Nayarit, Oaxaca and Sinaloa, temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius are forecast with possible frosts.
Given these predictions, the National Civil Protection Coordination has issued various recommendations to protect yourself from low temperatures. The authorities recommended that the population wear warm clothing, avoid exposing themselves to the cold environment and sudden changes in temperature.
