Russians are preparing to welcome the most uncertain New Year in their recent history. To distract the population, concerned about the military campaign in Ukraine, the authorities have decided to maintain the New Year celebrations, although they have deprived them of their usual pomp.
«A year like this, we must not forget the families of the military, their children, those who work in the defense industry. We must not forget that our boys risk their lives at the front. For this reason, the festivities will be dedicated, first of all, to them,” said the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin.
In this sense, he specified that “in many parks and festivals humanitarian aid will be collected” and children will be able to use the mail of Ded Moroz (Russian Santa Claus) to send congratulatory postcards to soldiers and residents “in the new regions”. Ukrainian annexed by Russia, advanced.

Moscow, which until now has stayed away from many events related to the Russian war campaign, decided to receive the New Year, undoubtedly the most celebrated holiday by Russians, in a more sober way.
Thus, Sobianin canceled large open-air concerts as well as fireworks during the festivities that in this country begin on New Year’s Eve and last until January 9.
As explained by the councilor, this was the decision of the Muscovites during the public vote in which almost 300,000 people participated, who advocated celebrating Christmas, but restricting the festivities and dedicating the income obtained to the fighters.
He also recalled that Christmas parties were not canceled even in 1942 after the Nazi invasion during the Great Patriotic War and Christmas events were held in trenches, air shelters, factories, theaters and parks.
