Civil Defense deploys 8,151 members for Christmas and New Year operations

Defensa Civil despliega 8,151 miembros para operativo Navidad y Año Nuevo

Santo Domingo.- Civil Defense deployed 8,151 members between employees and volunteers, for the operation “Awareness for Life Christmas and New Year 2022-2023” which will be distributed in 385 aid stations in the 32 provinces of the country.

This was reported by the president of the National Emergency Commission (CNE) and executive director of Civil Defense, Juan Salas, who added that this staff is made up of volunteers, doctors, paramedics, brigade members, search and rescue specialists, and vehicle extrication technicians.

Salas also said that the institution will have 12 ambulances equipped with the necessary medicines and equipment to provide timely pre-hospital care in the face of emergencies that may occur on the roads.

Likewise, the director indicated that three pre-hospital care posts will also be enabled, one under the Juan Carlos Bridge (between the Las Américas Highway and Charles de Gaulle Avenue); another at kilometer 87 1/2 of the Duarte Highway, Monseñor Nouel province and one in the La Cuchilla community, San Cristóbal.

He explained that nine mobile rescue units, equipped with vehicle extrication tools, will be placed at strategic points to free victims trapped in collided vehicles.

Sign language in operation

In addition, the Civil Defense incorporated sign language with volunteer interpreters in different parts of the country, during the preventive flagging that is carried out as part of the “Conciencia por la Vida” operation, so that the deaf community in the country has access to important information that allows you to preserve your life during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Juan Salas, who led the event in the National District, pointed out that this initiative arose after the agreement signed this year between the Civil Defense and the National Institute for the Training of Sign Language Interpreters (INFOILES), with which it was possible to create a national network of volunteers that will provide assistance to hard of hearing people in any emergency.

“In the country there are about one hundred thousand people who live with this condition. That is why today we want to bring you the preventive messages that we prepare for these dates, so that they can also be part of this commitment, which seeks above all that people can arrive safely at their destination and enjoy themselves, but, prudently,” said director Salas.

As part of the first phase of the operation that began on December 23, volunteers and employees of the Civil Defense headquarters were stationed at the intersections of Avenida 27 de Febrero in the National District, from Máximo Gómez to Isabel Aguiar, to make flags and carry banners with preventive messages such as: Use the seat belt; respect pedestrians; comply with speed limits; Respect the traffic signals; do not drink alcoholic beverages or use cell phones while driving, etc.
