After leading the meeting of the Technical Committee as a result of the voracious forest fire in Viña del Mar, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, confirmed the death of a second person as a result of the incident.
According to preliminary information, the Secretary of State maintained that “what we know is that we have a second deceased person already certified” as the cause of the emergency that has left a balance of 13 homes affected and 30 injured.
“We want to call on all people who have a history or concerns in this matter to do so through the corresponding agencies; the Prosecutor’s Office, the Police and the PDI,” said the Secretary of State.
Likewise, he urged to “avoid rumors or news that do not go through these channels, because that generates concerns or concern in the population.”
As for the houses affected by the incident, Tohá explained that there is still no figure, since “there are many areas that cannot be entered because the fire has not completely ended and we have active sources, so there are preliminary estimates that we can reach up to 500 houses, but effective certification of houses that are verified by their damage by the municipality, we are only at 130”.
As a result of the situation, Tohá ruled that it was decided to prepare a “contingency plan to help us prevent these situations from being replicated in other areas of the environment; there are conditions that are too favorable for fires and there is a lot of vulnerability in this territory.”
