Communists Cuba supports the 11J protests and censors the sentences "exemplary"

The left that have shown solidarity with the protesters of July 11 “fulfill their socialist commitment to be with the working class,” says the Comunistas Cuba collective, a group related to Trotskyism and opposed to the current ruling leadership that has made public a statement to take a position against the trials against those who protested on 11J.

In a long preamble with references to theoretical Marxism, Comunistas Cuba points out that those who took to the streets on July 11, 2021 were a multitude of workers who are hungry and needy, tired of “the bureaucracy that exacerbated the economic crisis by imposing the Ordering Task” and that does not suffer its rigors.

“They crashed against a political system, which increasingly reserves the revolutionary and socialist only for discourse. You cannot think like the people if you do not live like the people”

In line with what the opposition considers, Comunistas Cuba considers that the population was not only there with economic demands, but also political ones because “they crashed against a political system, which increasingly reserves the revolutionary and socialist only for discourse. No You can think like the people if you don’t live like the people,” they add.

The note accepts the concept of the “imperialist blockade”, but refuses to attribute full responsibility for the social outbreak to it. Instead, he considers that there has long been a huge neglect in the most popular neighborhoods, from infrastructure and basic supplies to the lack of spiritual care and the increase in inequality.

“What can the Cuban working class do about it when the bureaucracy does not listen to it; when its young intellectuals are politically questioned every time they criticize, even branded as counterrevolutionaries; when the unions are far from fulfilling the mandate of the working class and the working class is far from having power? July 11 was nothing more than a desperate expression of the Cuban working class,” they write.

The statement takes stock of the data offered by the Prosecutor’s Office on the 24th, which places the number of people indicted at 790 and which, according to Comunistas Cuba, denotes the number of people who took to the streets, since that number is only a small portion of those who were arrested and not all the participants were arrested.

“Our solidarity claim is for the working class, not with those who conspire to impose a system that subjects the working class to imperialist exploitation”

In addition, it is forceful against the reaction of the authorities and security forces. “The State that represses the working class because it protests demanding economic claims is a State far from being socialist.”

Communists Cuba asks that their defense of anti-government protesters not be confused with support for the right-wing opposition, or those who work for the United States “and seek to impose a pro-imperialist and anti-communist capitalist dictatorship in Cuba” and specifically cite José Daniel Ferrer.

“Our solidarity claim is for the working class, not with those who conspire to impose a system that subjects the working class to imperialist exploitation,” they specify.

The text considers that the marches are historic and it is an obligation for the international left not to “turn a deaf ear to what happened before and after the protests.”

Comunistas Cuba also highlights the youth of the protesters and deplores the attempt to tarnish their reputation by calling them criminals when only 21% have criminal records, according to data from the Prosecutor’s Office and that other organizations question, among other reasons for the statute of limitations. of some alleged crimes committed.

They also consider unacceptable trials “with clear political motivations” and the imposition of “exemplary” sentences. Machiavelli and not Marx is based on the strategy of the Cuban Communist Party to face the July 11 protests.

“Citizens who, even without being members of police forces, protected by the Government, beat protesters, enjoy total impunity”

Another sector that does not escape the comprehensive criticism of the group are the civilians who lend themselves to police or military work. “Citizens who, even without being members of police forces, protected by the Government, beat protesters, enjoy total impunity or at least no public reference has been made to them. The weight of the law must also fall on these citizens. “, they demand.

The statement concludes with the demand for a pardon for those who are being unfairly judged, especially for those under 20 years of age who demanded their rights peacefully and who, when they did not do so, was for their right to legitimate defense.

“We demand the immediate approval of the demonstration law so that the right to express oneself in the streets is not illegal, nor does it continue to criminalize and politically attack those who exercise the right to protest,” they finish before finishing off with several Marxist slogans.

The Communist Cuba collective is not very numerous, but it is mostly young, according to what has been stated people from the area who point out the existence on the island of a movement increasingly that he identifies with the ideological left, but not with the Cuban ruling party, which he considers a bureaucratic and bourgeois elite.
