President Alberto Fernández announced this Friday that Argentina reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the renegotiation of the debt that “does not condition” the country’s growth nor does it affect “its goals of social justice” and ratified that the understanding with the agency will go through Congress in a recorded message at the Olivos Residence.
“We suffered a problem and now we have a solution with an agreement without restrictions. We reached an agreement that does not contemplate restrictions, that postpone our development, does not limit, does not restrict, does not condition the rights of our retirees, does not force us to a labor reform and it does not impose us to reach a zero deficit”, Fernandez remarked at the beginning of his speech.
In addition, the head of state added: “I will submit this agreement to Congress for its consideration and I appeal to the national commitment of everyone.”

“We had a rope around our necks, a sword of Damocles, and now we have a path that we can travel. Without an agreement, we did not have a horizon for the future, and with this agreement we can order the present and build a future,” the President remarked.
The president stated that “This agreement does not reveal our social spending, our goals in social justice and respects our investment plans in science and technology”.
Fernández indicated that with this agreement, Argentina will be able to “access new financing, because this agreement plans to sustain the economic recovery that has already started, it foresees that there will be no drop in real spending and there will be an increase in the government’s investment in public works.”
