Guridi began a continuous sit-in in front of Saime’s main headquarters in November, to demand that they grant him an identity card.

Last December Guridi began a hunger strike in front of the Spanish Consulate in Caracas, to demand identity documents, which both Venezuela and the European country denied him. On December 7, 2021, the National Commission for Refugees (Conare) gave him a document that recognized his refugee status, but even so he did not have identity documents to be able to lead a legal life in Venezuela.

Guridi is 52 years old. He is in Venezuela seeking to avoid what he considers a “persecution and revenge of the Spanish State”, accusing the Spanish Civil Guard of being responsible for a “brutal torture” to which he was subjected in 1992 and until 1997, a time that took place in various prisons.
Since 2005 he has lived in Caracas, where he had a son who was born in 2008 and who is currently under illegal status in Spain.
