As of this Thursday, December 22, the carriers of the Caracas blocks will charge six bolivars as the minimum urban rate. Two additional bolivars will be added to the express highway routes, for a ticket costing eight bolivars, informed the president of the Antímano Drivers Union (UCA), David Bonalde.

The decision was agreed at a public transport assembly in Caracas held at the UCA headquarters. The coordinators of the transport blocks of Caracas, Pedro Jiménez; from the South-West Transportation Block, Yralith Reyes; from the Eastern transport bloc, Ricardo Guillen; from the West, Pablo Lugo; of trunk routes, Yelmira Jiménez, and the presidents of all the lines of Greater Caracas.

“The ticket that we have is not enough to maintain unity with that rise in the dollar, for this reason, we all agreed to raise it to six bolivars so that it is not so strong among the population and that it can moderately sustain the costs,” Bonalde said in a telephone interview. with El Pitazo.

The carrier stated that the measure will be applied moderately and with an information campaign so that users are aware of the new minimum rate. “We know that they are on Christmas holidays and this brings a shock to the population, but this measure is a consequence of the rise in the dollar, which influences users and us,” said Bonalde.

Users denounce abuse by ticket

The previous rate was four bolivars, an amount that was implemented on November 20, 2022 and in a month, after that measure, some drivers began to charge five bolivars, a fact classified as abuse by a large number of users.

Sofía Buitrago from Caracas indicated that the “simple increase to one more bolivar is an abuse, but not because of the monetary value, but because of the recurrence of the minimum fare increases.”

Authorities postponed meetings

Bonalde indicated that for months they have been hoping to reach an agreement with the authorities of the government of Nicolás Maduro on the new urban ticket rate, but the meetings were not satisfactory or have been postponed, reasons for which they were forced to make the decision to increase.

“We have tried to meet with the minister and the people from the ministry to agree on a rate that does not affect the population so much, but two previous meetings were called and no agreement was reached. Subsequently, others were called that were postponed and seeing that we have had a long time with the dollar problem, which influences the inputs we consume, we made the decision,” said the UCA representative.

Finally, the carrier asked the population for understanding with the new measure, because to keep the sector operational it is necessary to adjust the rates to reality.
