Preliminary hearing number 18 was suspended, where it had to be defined whether the judge would raise the case to an oral and public trial in the case of Gregorio “Papo” Morales.
Edelira Álvarez, plaintiff lawyer, described this situation as a “circus”, since the defendant had been postponed twice to present a private lawyer. Now it remains to define the new date.
CONTEXT
Morales He was charged with intentional homicide. While his girlfriend Cynthia Ojeda Burgos for omission of assistance, omission to give notice of a punishable act and frustration of prosecution and criminal execution. This, after the crime of Robert Fabián Marín Caballero (23 years old).
The event occurred on Monday, November 23, 2021 at night. It happened in the San Pablo neighborhood of the capital. Morales shot Marín four times in the middle of a public thoroughfare.
According to the prosecutor’s account, Digno Segovia, a friend of the victim, picked up Robert Marín from his home to celebrate his birthday. The destination was a bar (Taj) located on Avenida Aviadores del Chaco in Asunción.
However, during the journey, Marín asked Segovia to first make a stop in Chopp Territory to see her friend (by Cynthia Ojeda Burgos).
Upon arrival, instead of finding the woman, they met Moraleswho after a discussion where he accused Marín of having disrespected Burgos, shoots him four times.
“Little brother, stay with me” were the young man’s last words to Segovia. Marín passed away a couple of hours later, after the incident.
After the crime, the couple went to a motel in Lambaré where they were arrested on Tuesday, November 24.
