Cuban Carlos Daniel Albornoz wins Blitz joust in international chess tournament held in Mexico

The Cuban Carlos Daniel Albornoz conquered this Wednesday the crown of the Blitz modality of the International Tournament of Chess carlos torre In Memoriamwhich was held in the city of Merida, Mexicowith the assistance of prominent players from the continent.

Behind the Cuban was the Peruvian José Eduardo Martínez, who had just led the main tournament and completed another good task of eight units, only marred by a couple of armistices, adds the newspaper.

The Colombian Sergio Barrientos achieved the other position on the podium by adding eight stripes, but with a lower cumulative tiebreaker against Martínez.

The Cuban Quesada was fourth with 7.5 points and the first ten places were completed by Elier Miranda, León Hoyos, Alexey and the hosts Sion Galaviz, Miguel Palma and Santiago Zacarías, also representing the Island, all with seven points.

In this way, Albornoz closed a year with a bittersweet taste: he had managed to win the classic games in the editions of the Mexican tournament held in 2018 and 2019.

However, this year he reached 2,600 points in his ELO coefficient for the first time, just when the ranking of the International Chess Federation (Fide) for the month of September.

That score was sustained thanks to his good performances at the Olympiad held in the Indian city of Chennai, and the laurel won at the Mirandela Chess Open, Portugal.

In November, the native of Camagüey was also crowned in the Open Tournament in Malaga, Spain, but Lugo closed his participation in the Figueiras Da Foz International Chess Festival, in Portuguese lands with a tenth seat.
