He also recalled that the terminal, which received 194,000 passengers in November, will invest 22,000,000 dollars in 2023 and announced investments close to 20,000,000 in the port of Nueva Palmira.
In dialogue with Presidential Communication, the Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola, highlighted the importance of the work regarding the positioning of Uruguay in the services sector, which will be complemented by future improvements of a greater size, for an investment of about 22,000,000 dollars, between 2023 and 2024. The completion of this stage will represent a significant improvement for the operations and services provided by the port of Colonia, he considered.
In another order, he recalled initiatives in development in other parts of the country, such as the progress in the Capurro fishing terminal, the inauguration of the private terminal of UPM, the improvements in the Montevideo terminal, and the dredging of the access channel to the port of the capital. In addition, he explained that work is expected to begin in the container terminal of the aforementioned port for the next semester, with an investment of approximately 600,000,000 dollars, the largest in the country’s history.
In relation to the annual balance of the portfolio, he stated that close to 900,000,000 dollars were invested in road works, due to the improvement of infrastructure and security, to reduce the accident rate on national routes.
For his part, the president of the ANP, Juan Curbelo, stressed that the inauguration of the sleeves and walkways in the port of Colonia are part of the permanent improvement in terms of connectivity in the area. The works required a year and a half and improved the appearance and aesthetics of the port terminal, he pointed out.
Referring to the period of works stated by Olaizola, Curbelo announced that it will involve the construction of a third sleeve, and the improvement of docks and fenders. The hierarch pointed out that the realization of this project will generate the conditions for the Colonian terminal to be among the first level. This new stage will begin in March 2023 and will last until the second half of 2024.
He also argued that the main bulk terminal in Uruguay, located in Nueva Palmira, will receive investments of about 20,000,000 dollars for the 2023-2024 period.
The chief reported that for the ANP the last two years were “very good” in terms of income, and that the profits are used to improve the infrastructure, to influence port and tourist activity.
Participating in the inauguration ceremony, held this Wednesday the 21st in the port of Colonia del Sacramento, were the Minister of National Defense, Javier García; the Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola; the president of the ANP, Juan Curbelo; the Mayor of Colonia, Carlos Moreira; and the president of Styler, the company responsible for the work, Marcos Taranto.
