Peruvians in Venezuela reject attacks against compatriots

Peruvian citizens residing in Venezuela expressed this Wednesday their rejection of the attacks against the inhabitants of their country, after the dismissal and subsequent arrest of Pedro Castillo.

“We feel that they are attacking us, that they are taking away our homeland. Pedro Castillo, was elected by a common people. Capitalism does not like a ruler of the people, and they have invented a coup d’etat,” said Carmen Rojas, a member of the International Committee to Support the Peruvian people of Venezuela, reports AVN.

In statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, Rojas asserted that former President Pedro Castillo is being persecuted for which they reject all kinds of action against him.

Peruvian citizens in the country were accompanied by the Movement of Residents.

On December 7, he was removed as head of state, after trying to dissolve Congress.

The Peruvian Judiciary imposed 18 months of preventive detention on Pedro Castillo, who is accused of rebellion, abuse of authority and others.

Since his arrest, strong protests have been registered in the country, which already leave a balance of 25 deaths.
