The Argentine Football Association (AFA) was awarded 10,000,000 dollars by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), due to the obtaining of the World title achieved by the Argentine team in Qatar in the World Cup that ended last Sunday in Qatar.
In that context, the AFA kept the prize promised by Conmebol if a South American team achieved the world championship in Qatar and Argentina defeated France 4-2 with shots from the penalty spot after an emotional and exciting 3-3 win in 120 minutes, the AFP news agency reported.
The 10,000,000 dollars from Conmebol are added to the 42,000,000 that the AFA obtained from FIFA being world champion, totaling 52,000,000 in prizes for the organization whose president is Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia.
The president of Conmebol, the Paraguayan Alejandro Domínguez, had promised this special award after being re-elected in April 2022 and after Argentina’s consecration he said: “The Cup returned home, Argentina is a team that fulfilled the dream of a whole continent. We are extremely proud of this team”.
Conmebol now aims to organize the 2030 World Cup and the Argentine triumph is an important milestone to cement the South American candidacy. The United States, Mexico and Canada will receive the World Cup in 2026, but Conmebol has the firm desire to organize the global fair on the centenary of the FIFA World Cups.
The South American organization promotes the joint candidacy of Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile for 2030 and Domínguez added: “In 2030 it will be 100 years since the first edition and the World Cup must return to its origins. We must honor the memory of those who believed big and bet on organizing a World Cup in South America for the first time.” .
