The lack of key professionals has affected the project of the Chinchero International Airport (Cusco)where the Comptroller General of the Republic has found deficiencies and delays that have been reported in its November report, recently released.
The problems of the future air terminal are in the design of the main works, which have a budget of almost US$428 million of the US$648.5 million of the total project and which include works such as the passenger terminal, the control tower, electrical systems , parking and access roads, to name a few.
The Comptroller’s Office specified that its alert is due “to the deficiencies identified in the specialties of Architecture, Mechanics and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)”.
“The control commission specifies that these deficiencies were caused by the lack of incorporation of the Architecture Manager, Mechanical Engineer and Information and Communication Technology Engineer (ICT), since in these specialties there is no supervision and control of the work carried out by the design subcontractor”, highlighted the entity in a report.
Delays and actions
Add to this the fact that the main works have progressed slowly, since until the October report they had a physical progress of only 1%, when the progress should have been 10.11%, as scheduled.
In this context, the control entity remarked that it is up to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Project Management Office (PMO) to take actions to achieve the participation of the required professionals.
“The results of this control report were notified in a timely manner to the Vice Minister of Transportation of the MTC in order to adopt immediate corrective actions to ensure the achievement of the objectives of the airport project,” the entity highlighted.
