The Ministry of Transport said that it will be more rigorous with the payments of the Compulsory Traffic Accident Insurance (Soat)despite the sanction of decree 2497 of December 16, 2022, with which some categories of vehicles will have a discount on payment of up to 50%, as of December 19.

With this measure, the portfolio expects incentivize not only the payment of the insurance but also avoid counterfeiting.
With relief, the Ministry asked the Traffic Police to demand this insurance and verify its veracity to avoid any adulteration.
“We are going to rigorously demand the Soat at all points and tolls in the country, we will not forgive any vehicle that adulterates it or does not carry it. This insurance is a guarantee on the roads for both the driver and the passerby”, said the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes.

In turn, other vehicles may have relief for good conduct presented during the years 2020 and 2021, granting a discount of 10% of the payment. The resources for this will be consecrated in the General Budget of the Nation of 2023.
Only until September 6.6 million Soat had been issued, 4.5% more than a year ago, according to the Federation of Colombian Insurers (Fasecolda).
Currently, four out of 10 motorcycles pay for Compulsory Insurance, and with the rate reduction, the figure is expected to grow.
