A Cuban baseball player suspended for life will continue his career in the Dominican Republic

Cuban baseball player Alfredo Fadraga left the island and is in the Dominican Republic. Last July, the catcher was suspended for life from all sports activities by the Cuban Baseball Federation, after the regime insulted him and exhibited him as an undisciplined athlete for a frustrated escape attempt in Mexico.

“Fadraga has enormous potential to achieve a professional firm,” said journalist Francys Romero. With his arrival in the Dominican Republic, the player “seeks a professional signing” with a team.

This man from Ciego de Avila came from a rising process and was pointed out as a benchmark for Cuban baseball. During this growth, he had the advice of Roger Machado, “one of the best catcher defensive backs in the history of our baseball,” Fadraga acknowledged. “I turn to him at all times and there is no doubt that he brings you a lot.”

The praise that he had earned in his training process changed due to the disqualifications from the regime. As usual with athletes who break out, was labeled a “traitor“. Since he was returned to the island by the Mexican authorities, together with Yosvany Ávalos, for more than a month he lived with the uncertainty of knowing if he was going to be sanctioned only in sports or if there would be another type of punishment.

During his stay in Mexico last June, where the Cuban team participated in the U-23 Pan American Championship, in Aguascalientes, Fadraga along with Ávalos took advantage of the rest day to leave the concentration hotel. The manager of the selection requested the help of state authorities to arrest the baseball players as if they were criminals.

“Fadraga has enormous potential to achieve a professional firm,” said journalist Francys Romero

The Aguascalientes authorities made use of surveillance cameras to locate the players and there was a police deployment, which was questioned by the director of Amnesty International in Mexico, Erika Guevara. They handed over two athletes who were seeking “international protection, as thousands have done” there was no crime.

The frustrated escape of Fadraga and Ávalos evidenced some of the measures used by the sports authorities to try to prevent escapes. They take away the passports of the players and, at night, they also take their cell phones. “The days that there is a game they take them away, until the other day at seven in the morning they are delivered so that they do not have communication with the outside world,” Francys Romero revealed the protocols at international events.

Baseball player Leodan Reyes left Cuba this Saturday for the Dominican Republic, published FR Baseball! His fastball tops out at a steady 93-94 miles, with tops up to 96.

This athlete, specified Francys Romero, “projects much more and also has among his secondary pitches a quick slidercurve and change”.
