Cuba gives the green light to the official practice of women’s boxing

The National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) made official the practice of boxing among women at the beginning of the month, a request that had been valued for several years.

The change is part of a series of reforms that have been accelerating in Cuban boxing. Last May, Cuba made its professional boxing debut at a show in Mexico after a six-decade ban.

Previously, in 2014, the insular fighters had entered the semi-pro circuit.

Boxing for women has gained acceptance across the globe and has been part of the Olympic program since the London 2012 edition.
