The Colombian-Venezuelan Government, Trade Union and Business Meeting, organized by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, was held in Bogotá on Friday, December 16. Nearly 400 public, business and trade union representatives from both countries met there.
According to what was reviewed by the CAF, this event will contribute to open new paths to strengthen binational ties and advance in the reestablishment of the relationship between Colombia and Venezuela. The activity was attended by Sergio Díaz, president of CAF; the Minister of Agricultural Production and Land, Wilmar Castro Soteldo and the Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez, in addition to a large representation of national businessmen, including Conindustria.
The Colombian side was represented by Germán Umaña, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism; Guillermo Reyes, Minister of Transportation; Cecilia López, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Francisco Coy, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs (Colombia).
The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, Germán Umaña Mendoza, assured during the panel of conclusions that in the reestablishment of this relationship “we must have institutionality and legal certainty. That is why we decided to establish a legal framework and negotiate an investment protection agreement that will give that security to businessmen from both nations”.

For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Land of Venezuela, Wilmar Castro Soteldo, expressed “that the physical and spiritual contact of our businessmen and technicians exceeded all expectations and that commits us much more, forces us to accelerate firmly.” , said.
The president of CAF, Sergio Díaz-Granados, highlighted that Colombia and Venezuela are writing a new chapter in a relationship that marks the pulse of Latin American integration and that it is necessary for the progress of both countries.
“From CAF we offer to support this process in the way and manner that the governments of Venezuela and Colombia require it. We believe that we can be an ideal means and channel to support them in various sectoral dimensions, with national and territorial approaches, especially at the border, and in interaction with the private sector of both countries”, he stated.

In them, the nearly 400 participants exchanged ideas to strengthen the construction of a binational vision.
At the end of the panel of conclusions, a joint declaration was made between the transport ministers of Colombia, Guillermo Reyes, and of Venezuela, Ramón Velásquez.
The senior officials recognized the need to establish a bilateral operational plan for the gradual reactivation of international road cargo and passenger transport between the two nations.
