cárcel, recluso

Havana Cuba. – From the maximum rigor penitentiary center of kilo 8which is located in the province of Camagüey, the inmate Osvaldo Chacón Leyva denounced the refusal of medical treatment and other mistreatment of which he has been a victim by officials of that prison.

Through a phone call, Osvaldo Chacón Leyva explained that on Thursday, December 8, the head of the medical post, an officer named Dumas, went to give him an analgesic for his toothache, but thinking he was sleeping (the inmate was trying to rest due to intense pain) the soldier withdrew without giving him the medicine.

Chacón Leyva goes on to say that at 2:00 in the afternoon he looked for the officer to give him the medicine, but instead the soldier gave the pretext that he had to wait for the dentist on duty to examine him the next day. However, according to Chacón Leyva’s explanation, the doctor was present and the officer had already requested the drug on behalf of the prisoner, so there were no real reasons to deny it.

He also explained that later his wife contacted the second head of the unit by telephone, who argued that the refusal was due to the fact that the doctors had to leave at 2:00 p.m., while at the same time he assured her that the next day they would they would deliver the necessary medications such as painkillers, antibiotics, etc.

On the other hand, the inmate also pointed out that his father appeared at the National Directorate of Jails and Prisons, based at 15 and K, in Vedado, and there the military spoke with the head of the prison, Lieutenant Colonel Juan Miguel Sánchez Duarte, who guaranteed the capital’s officials that Chacón Leyva would undergo a medical check-up according to his conditions.

However, up to the time of sharing this complaint, they had not given him the medicines nor had they carried out any test or medical examination. The prisoner also shared his suspicion that the military steal the medicines from the prison to profit from them, since they do not distribute them to the sick in prison.

In another order, the inmate also denounced the platoon leader, who, in retaliation for his demands for medical attention, on Tuesday, December 6, verbally assaulted him in the corridor, uttering obscene words, and also threatened to break his head “as they were told.” He left the recluse Pocholo”.
