MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban Government extended until June 30, 2023 the approved tariff benefits related to the exemption from payment of taxes for the non-commercial import of food, toiletries and medicines that enter as accompanied luggage.
In accordance with the regulations, and through Resolution 298 of December 9, 2022, of the Ministry of Finance and Prices, published In the Official Gazette No. 83 Extraordinary of December 15, 2022, the benefit of importing these products without limits in value and quantities is extended.
The decision to extend this extension is due, according to the text, to the fact that “limitations persist in the supply of food and other products in the national market,” which, according to the Cuban authorities, is “the effect of the intensification of the economic blockade, commercial and financial activity exerted by the US administration on Cuba and the worsening of the world economic crisis, which has resulted in the growth of international prices of goods necessary to satisfy the needs of the population and the economic and social development of the country ”.
“As part of the gradual recovery of the economy and the objective of achieving the stabilization of macroeconomic indicators, among which is the reduction of the fiscal deficit, it is necessary to maximize tax revenues in correspondence with the taxable activities and events in which are incurred”, adds the information.
These tariff benefits had been temporarily approved by Resolution 309 of July 15 of last year.
Since then, the tariff exemption for food, hygiene and medicines at points of entry into the country has been extended on several occasions.
