This Wednesday the exodus of vacationers began at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) for the winter holidays. From early on, there were passengers who traveled to the main tourist and cultural destinations in the country to celebrate the holidays with family or friends. Airport sources indicated that, during this season, the influx of passengers increases between 15 and 20 percent.
According to airline employees, the main destinations that people chose were beaches such as Cancun, Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido, as well as various archaeological zones.
However, things did not turn out in the best way, as there were delays and cancellations of national and international flights with destinations or arrivals in Monterrey, Veracruz, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Reynosa, Durango, Cancún, Guatemala, Los Angeles. , New York and El Salvador, among others.
The FlightAware flight tracking portal recorded yesterday afternoon at this terminal that 214 operations suffered delays. Of these, 62 were from Aeroméxico; 62, from Aeroméxico Connect; 14, from Volaris, and 37, from Viva Aerobús. The problem caused discontent and anger among the passengers.
In addition, operations at the AICM have been suspended in recent days due to fog banks that make takeoffs and landings difficult.
Records from the capital airport reported that 990 air operations were scheduled yesterday, of which 493 were arrival flights and 497 departures.
It is estimated that between 250 and 300 thousand people attend each day in the two terminals of the capital airport. In 2021, almost 36 million passengers were mobilized, but before the pandemic, more than 50 million users registered.
As a security measure, elements of the Navy monitor the facilities, baggage inspection filters and public corridors. They also guide users on the location of airline counters, access filters, boarding rooms, customs, migration, baggage claim bands, authorized taxi area and buses, among other services.
