The Government issued the supreme decree which declares the state of emergency for 30 days calendars throughout the country in the face of the violent protests that took place in some regions after the failed coup d’état by Pedro Castillo and the assumption of Dina Boluarte as president.
The restrictive measure, which was made official this Wednesday through an extraordinary edition of the newspaper El Peruano, had already been announced earlier by Defense Minister Alberto Otárola. The regulation does not establish the application of the curfew, as had been speculated.
The supreme decree states that The National Police of Peru “maintains control of internal orderwith the support of the Armed Forces.
In addition, it is required that “constitutional rights are suspended relating to the inviolability of the home, freedom of transit through the national territory, freedom of assembly and personal freedom and security”.

Some days ago, the Government had declared a state of emergency in Apurímac, then in Arequipa and Ica, however, it decided to extend the measure to the entire country. It was also ordered that the military guard the airports and hydroelectric plants.
