The Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic), the General Directorate of Professional Technical Education (DGETP-UTU) and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of the Republic (Udelar) presented the cybersecurity course aimed at high school graduates.
The director of Agesic’s Information Security Area, Mauricio Papaleo, in his speech, stated that the cybersecurity curriculum was developed by the University of the Republic, through the Ricaldoni Foundation, with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as one of the goals established in the loan to strengthen against this type of digital attacks in Uruguay.
He said that the course originated in the context of a current problem, and that the security of citizens, companies and critical infrastructures must be protected. “It has become one of the main challenges we have ahead of us,” she stressed.
The hierarch expressed that in 2020 technical studies were carried out that determined that Uruguay needs more than 700 specialists in the area. In addition, he stated that the proposal seeks to be a contribution to the development of human talent in cybersecurity, in order to reduce the differences in terms of this talent in the public and private sectors.
Papaleo explained that this career ensures training opportunities for those who have completed secondary education, he also added that it will be freely and flexible for all academic institutions in the country.
