Leo Messi has confirmed that he will play his last game of the world Cup when Argentina take on France or Morocco in Sunday’s final in Qatar. The former Barcelona player led the Albiceleste to a 3-0 win over Croatia in their semi-final on Tuesday and will play his 172nd game at the weekend as he tries to give the country its first World Cup title since 1986.
“I feel very happy to be able to achieve this, to end my World Cup career playing my last game in a final,” Messi told the Argentine outlet ‘Ole’. There are many years to go before the next one and I don’t think I can do it. Finishing like this is the best,” added the captain.
The 35-year-old PSG player is playing his fifth World Cup, surpassing the four of Diego Maradona and Javier Mascherano.
