The Articulation of Indigenous Women of Paraguay (MIPY) and the Coordinator for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CDIA) spoke out following the murder, early Sunday morning, of a 13-year-old girl from the Ava Guaraní indigenous community Tres Ríos Tajy Poty, settled in the Pindoty neighborhood of the department of Canindeyú.
The teenager was allegedly shot by a 26-year-old subject they identified as her “partner”.
In addition, they referred to the death of the 4-year-old girl at the San Estanislao hospital, department of San Pedro, attributed, according to journalistic versions, to a “septic shock” due to acute gastroenteritis.
However, when examined by the doctors, she showed signs of sexual abuse. The girl was a member of the Ava Guaraní people, from the town of Yataity del Norte, in the department of San Pedro.

“There is no indigenous culture in our country that justifies violence against indigenous women and girls,” Tina Alvarenga, from the Articulation of Indigenous Women of Paraguay (MIPY), told EFE about the cases.
“We believe that we can no longer remain silent, we cannot leave the situation of these girls invisible and we ask that the full weight of the law on feminicides and sexual abusers of girls and adolescents really fall,” she added.
Alvarenga regretted that it is considered that the adolescent “I was in a relationship.”
“She is a girl who was being abused, because she was barely 13 years old, and she was killed by her abuser,” she hurt.
The spokeswoman expressed her discomfort at the alleged consent of the family.

On the case of the 4-year-old girl, Alvarenga requested an investigation into the indications that she was being “systematically abused” and indicated that in no culture can “justify” or “normalize” what happened.
For its part, the CDIA considered that these facts “They highlight the deficiencies that exist in terms of prevention and protection of violence against girls, adolescents and women of indigenous peoples in Paraguay.”
“Official data on femicides of girls, adolescents and women, sexual abuse, intrafamily violence, and child pregnancy show that Paraguay is not a safe place for this population group,” it added in a statement.
In this context, that organization demanded “justice and not impunity, but also prevention, protection and comprehensive care measures” to guarantee “the life and integrity of girls, adolescents and women” In Paraguay.
