The Rubik’s Cube crosses the border from analog to digital: Erno Rubik

Writing: Notistarz

50 years after the creation of the Rubik’s Cube, which has attracted millions of people around the world, it has crossed the border between analog and digital, said its creator Erno Rubik, pointing out that artificial intelligence can magnify our mistakes.

“Artificial intelligence is the topic with the greatest interest and potential for our lives. It’s already here and you can talk to it on your mobile phone, it’s on the web, and so on. In part, one has the impression that one knows more about oneself because it controls us, remembers what we are looking for and what our interests are”, said Rubik, in an interview with RTVE on the Mediterranean coast.

Erno Rubik points out that the big question about artificial intelligence is whether it can be more efficient, intelligent or creative than ourselves, and ensures that “it is partly true and partly false”.

“It is true that it is a big problem, because we do not want something to know more about us than ourselves and it is not good to lose interest in oneself. If that is so, it implies that interest in the world is also lost. Because we are containers and we exist in connection between our existence and the world”, explained the Hungarian, who now lives in Spain.

The journalist Ángela Rodicio points out that Rubik is a genius that exudes brilliance and that many consider a true legend and recalls that the first order in Hungary was for five thousand and one hundred million were sold and it continues to be sold.

Regarding the approach of his book on artificial intelligence, Rubik, he stressed that it should be forgotten that artificial intelligence “will be as we are, the result of our activities, reflecting our mind like a mirror and, if it knows what we already know, we will have problems with ourselves and with how our mind works.”

“That is the danger, not necessarily today, but if superintelligence, as they call it, surpasses human capabilities… that creates the problem. And if it magnifies our mistakes, that can be very dangerous”, warns the Hungarian.

And he assured that these are the essence of the problems of our days and each time “they will be much more alive in the coming decades” and he opined that the ability to learn from mistakes, “we are not practicing” enough.

“Because it is very, very important, it is very difficult to avoid mistakes, because we don’t know, we have to test and that’s what mistakes are for, to recognize them, avoid them, repeat them… The problem is that the capacity of digital and artificial intelligence is so great that they can magnify not only our good capacities, but also our bad ones. So they can magnify our mistakes,” he pointed out.
