Dollar closes higher at S/ 3.84 amid protests in the country

The price of US in Peru closed higher this Monday, after the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, said that she will seek an agreement with Congress to advance the general elections to April 2024, at the same time that she announced the declaration of a state of emergency in areas of high social conflict.

The exchange rate ended the day at S/ 3,841 per dollar, an increase of 0.42% compared to Wednesday’s close at S/ 3,825, according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).

So far this year, the greenback has accumulated a 3.76% decline compared to the last price of 2021, at S/ 3,991.

Today, US$ 291 million were negotiated in the market at an average price of S/ 3.84337, indicated Gianina Villavicencio, manager of Foreign Exchange Brokerage at Renta4 SAB.

During the day, the supply came from local corporations, with the dollar reaching a minimum level of S/ 3,820“, he pointed.

In the parallel market or the main exchange houses, the dollar is bought at S/ 3.82 and sold at S/ 3.86, according to data from the portal .

In Peru, the President of the Republic, held a message to the Nation this morning in the midst of the strong social protests that are taking place in the country and maintained that he will present to Congress a bill to advance elections to April 2024.

He also announced the declaration of a state of emergency in areas of high social conflict. “I have given instructions for the peaceful recovery of control of internal order without affecting the fundamental rights of citizens”, he referred.

In the morning, there were several episodes of violent acts in the country, such as the seizure of the Arequipa airport and attacks at the Gloria company plant in that city.

Globally, the dollar is losing ground as investors price in a smaller US consumer price hike in November and the Fed is likely to slow the pace of its rate hikes after its policy meeting on Wednesday.
