Soccer player in Iran is sentenced to death for supporting protests in favor of women

The death sentence of the player Amir Nasr-Azadani by the Iranian authorities is added to that of two other young people, who were publicly hanged for protests related to the demand for rights for women in the Persian nation

The International Federation of Professional Football Associations (Fifpro) denounced this Tuesday, December 13, that the Iranian player Amir Nasr-Azadani was sentenced to death by the authorities of his country, after he supported protests in favor of women’s rights. in Iran.

Through a statement, Fifpro said it was “shocked and disgusted” by the decision of the authorities in Tehran to execute the player. In this sense, they expressed their solidarity with him and asked that the punishment imposed be eliminated immediately.

The player, barely 26 years old, was charged with the alleged commission of the crime of ‘moharebeh’, that is, ‘enmity with God’, which leads to hanging. Media in Iran reported that the soccer player’s family has been repeatedly threatened if it was revealed that he was detained for this reason.

EuropaPress It refers that only one of the players of the Iran team advocated the executions. The goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand asked on his Instagram account that the penalties against the people be revoked.

In this way, the Iranian player Amir Nasr-Azadani would add his destiny to the young Majidreza Rahnavard and Mohsen Shekari, who have already been publicly hanged in the city of Mashhad.

In the case of Rahnavard, he had been accused of stabbing to death two members of the security forces last month in that same metropolis.

Activists say Iran has sentenced at least a dozen people to death in closed-door trials.

The protests began in response to the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who had been detained by Iran’s morality police for violating the dress code for women.
