All applicants are expected to be notified today. From there, a period of possible challenges to the qualifications opens.
The Qualifying Commission for the partial renewal of the Constitutional Court (CC) presented the final scores of the five applicants that remained in the process. Alejandra Cárdenas, Jhoel Escudero and Richard Ortiz obtained the best ratings in the merit stage and in the written test and oral. That is why they are emerging as the new constitutional judges.
The Constitution establishes that the plenary session of the CC must be renewed every three years, by thirds. This will be the first renewal of the current Court. According to the information revealed about the process, the maximum qualification it corresponded to Richard Ortiz, with 94 points. In second place was Jhoel Escudero with 93 and in third place is Alejandra Cárdenas with 89.5.
The president of the Commission, Vanessa Aguirre, pointed out that all applicants will be notified today. From there a period is opened for possible grade challenges which will close next Tuesday. Commissioners expect to take up to two days later to review and then proclaim the official results.
The competition has not been without controversy. During its development four contestants resigned. The last one was the candidate Carlos Gerardo Vásquez Morales at the time of the oral test. He spoke of alleged irregularities. These accusations have been rejected by the commissioners who state that everything has been carried out clearly and with respect for the laws and regulations.
