Liminal – In the promised land

En la tierra prometida - Miguel Guerrero

Miguel Guerrero is a journalist who, despite his youth, has trodden a highly varied and sensitive field in our world today. Journalism, a career that he embraced after his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and letters, graduating from the classrooms of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo with the academic title of the school that forms the men of the press, is not always a bed of roses; On the contrary, it is the founding of numerous social currents, the center of deep meditations and almost a legend, when the veil of activities that the exercise of this noble profession provokes daily is lifted.

In this book -pages focused with enthusiasm, written in fluent and easy language, to reach the hearts and intellects of readers smoothly- emerges a vigorous and subtle review of that great people, ancient, brave, educated and tirelessly hardworking, what It’s called Israel. Much has been said about this and more has been written. And it is that there is drama everywhere, hopes stopped in the course of time, and frustrations, until reaching the promised land to finally find a home, the home lost through the diasporas; the home where a tongue vibrates again was dormant for 2000 years, and which was resurrected thanks to the tenacious temperament of Ben Yehuda; the same one that had men and brains before and now – and here we evoke from Ibn Gabirol, Maimonides, Spinoza and others to Einstein, Weizmann, Katzir, Heifetz, Chagall, and hundreds more – or illustrious women among whom Golda Meir or the poet Goldberg.

In short, in the brushstrokes and in the stories of Miguel Guerrero the land of Israel emerges with its climactic fire or already with the rumor of water collected and made to sprout by necessity, science or art; the beautiful brushstrokes of the Sea of Galilee or the clouds and mists of Mount Hermon; the undoubted permanent beauty of the kibbutz of Ayalet Hashahar, what so many memories it brings back to us, as well as
the sacred, memorable, illustrious walls, Jerusalem. How can we forget all this if by following the author’s prose column by column, line by line, one walks across that strip of land that was hard and longed for at the same time; What is and continues to be a mixture of races and traditions and that, above all, is for Christianity as for other monotheistic religions, a mysterious corner of an infinite Universe.

The journalist has given way many times to his inner poetry; to the hidden culture that is not always revealed in the daily effort of the editions intended for public information. But, it is an undeniable fact that Miguel Guerrero has successfully known how to say many things that have not been said and repeat others or narrate them with a new interpretation, so that they are remembered and analyzed from other angles.

For his book, the best of successes and for Israel, the homage that a Dominican pen crystallizes in his experiences as travelers through the land in which prophets and men of faith stepped on the cracks and
They left traces of sublime eternity.
