Olesker: "This is a government that in three years has concentrated a lot of wealth"

These statements were made to the panorama 1410 program that is broadcast on Radio La R from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Olesker recently resigned from his seat in the Senate and is currently in the presidency of Social Affairs of the Broad Front. The former legislator said that he already planned to retire from the Upper House.

This was the first time that Olesker was a member of the Legislative Branch and in this regard he said that the difference between working in the Executive branch and in the Legislative branch is notorious. “Notorious in the sense of the role that one fulfills, in the Executive there is much more direct responsibility for making decisions.” He added that “this Senate, due to different characteristics, was not very elaborate. Not because of us who elaborated between minutes a number above 100 initiatives between senators and deputies ».

Speaking about the current reality, he said that until recently he was a professor of National Economic Structure. «We insisted a lot with the students on distinguishing the situation from the structure. That was not a course where we told them what was happening with the exchange rate. We told them what was the conformation of the economic model that had been built where the exchange rate was one more variable. Seen in this perspective for me three central things of the situation. The first is everything that refers to the concentration of wealth. This is a government that in three years has concentrated a lot of wealth,” she said.

How data said that the share of wages in national wealth fell and there is a loss in household consumption (4.5 points), where people with less income lost more than average, while the richest increased their level of consumption.

“At the end of the government we will be with a product that will be 12, 13, or 14% higher” than at the beginning of the government. “Then there is going to be a concentration of wealth,” he maintained, because wages fell. Another point is the reduction of public spending “basically what is relevant for the life of the family, that is, health, education, housing, INAU or Mides.”

He noted that another issue is the evolution of public companies “where the objectives of commercialization are very present. Here there is a difference between Lacalle Pou and Lacalle Herrera (NDR: the former president). Lacalle Herrera tried to privatize public companies, but now another path is chosen, which is the path not of selling State assets as a form of privatization but introducing private logic within State services.

For Olesker, the current government has two main axes: concentration of wealth and denationalization.

Uruguay participates in the Economic Forum in Morocco

The Uruguayan government, represented by the undersecretary of the Ministry of Livestock, Juan Ignacio Buffa, is in Morocco, participating in an Economic Forum made up of the Gulf and Mediterranean countries, where Uruguayan legislators from all political parties are also present.

“It was a special invitation, since we are the only country outside the region that is participating in the Forum,” Buffa told the official Presidential Communication website.

The objective of the meeting, according to the MGAP undersecretary, is to present Uruguay as a food supplier and as a country that is open to receiving investment.

“The countries participating in the Forum are very concerned about the food crisis and therein lies the opportunity for Uruguay to establish trade with that region. Part of the agenda we had included meetings with various Moroccan institutions, including exporters’ and producers’ unions, as well as with the health authorities to obtain authorizations to be able to export,” Buffa said.

According to what he said, they are “working hard” on the habilitation of honey, rice and live cattle. “It is an opportunity that Uruguay has to continue expanding its client portfolio, to be able to place its products in a context that is complex and in a context where this region is highly concerned about the food ban, which was subjected to 2 crises , the Covid health crisis, which triggered a crisis associated with logistics and supply chain aspects, and then the war between Russia and Ukraine, which greatly affects the food supply for the entire region,” said the undersecretary.
