MADRID, Spain.- Cuban peasant women denounced the serious food crisis that the country is going through and the obstacles that the Government imposes for a sustainable development of agriculture.

The meeting, which had representation from nine provinces of the Island, had as its main theme “Rural women and agriculture for a free market economy.”

As FLAMUR explained through a statement, experienced peasant women pointed out: “The internal blockade is brutal and how can we understand that we are surrounded by the sea and fishing is prohibited, but for tourism and export there are always all kinds of delicacies from the sea and let’s not talk of salt, because you will not find it even in the spiritual centers”.

In addition, they highlighted the need to expose the Cuban government as the main blocker of resources for the peasants and for the people in general.

Among the main demands of the peasant women to the regime are Economic Freedom, Freedom of Movement, Freedom of Expression, Freedom for all political prisoners and Freedom for private property.

Just as they mentioned the need to be able to sell the products according to the funds invested, to be able to buy tractors, seeds and herbicides in other countries at their own expense, that their rights as farmers and human beings be respected and that the descendants of the current peasantry be feel proud to live in the country and don’t feel ashamed to invite your friends from the city because of the great misery that exists in the country.
