Brothers kidnapped in Mexico, free and safe in the United States

Brothers Julmer Y Heysell Lineth Martinez HernandezNicaraguan migrants who had been kidnapped in Mexico on their way to the United States, were released on Friday and are now on US soil, according to sources.

«Here we are with my cousins. Thank God they are here. Not long ago I was bringing him because yesterday my cousin came and today I was bringing the other one. They are already together thanks to God and blessed be God and thanks for the support to all the people”, is heard in a video released this Sunday, December 11, in which the migrants appear inside a house belonging to an apparent relative .

In it, the young migrant stated that “they thank God first, and their family and all those who have supported them and were praying for them. God bless you”.

The situation of the young people, originally from Santa Rosa, municipality of Jalapa, Nueva Segovia, set off the alarms of the Nicaraguan people when, at the beginning of the month, a video went viral in which the migrants begged for their lives to kidnappers in Mexico.

“Dad, help us! Get the money if they’re not going to kill us. Help us, mom! Get the money from both of us —Julmer Martínez— because if not, they say that they are going to kill us or cut off our fingers”, said Heysell Linet Martínez through tears, while a gun was pointed at his temple.

The Nicaraguans left the country on November 13, forced by the economic crisis in Nicaragua, their objective was to reach the city of Los Angeles, but during their transit through Ciudad Juárez they were kidnapped, according to national media.

The criminals asked for 30 thousand dollars for the ransom of both. The family of the victims managed to raise about $10,000, depositing the first part of the cash on Monday, December 5.

“They went with a coyote, but we believe that this coyote did not pay the cartels and that is why they kidnapped them, well that is what people have told us,” said Karla Patricia Martínez, cousin of the kidnapped young people, to 100% News .

The relative pointed out that after delivering the money, they were able to establish contact and know that “thank God” they have their fingers and hands intact.

“A few minutes ago the United States Immigration authorities called us to inform us that they had already been released,” he told the media on Saturday, December 10.

Nicaraguan emigration has reached historic figures, due to political persecution and/or poverty under the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. The Office of Customs and Border Protection -CBP, for its acronym in English-, details that some 18,276 migrants from Nicaragua entered the United States illegally in September.
