In the morning hours of this Sunday, December 11, a dead sea turtle was found on the beaches of Lechería, Urbaneja municipality of Anzoátegui state, presumably caused by the oil spill that occurred in recent days on the shores of the coast.
Users on social networks reported the discovery of the reptile in the sand of one of the three beaches that were affected by the oil; specifically on Lido Beach. Those who denounced what happened with the turtle, ask that the causes for which it died be investigated.

For the La Causa R party, the silence of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) about the incident with the oil and the environmental damage caused “is not tolerable.”

So far, neither the Mayor’s Office of the Urbaneja Municipality of Anzoátegui state nor the mayor Manuel Ferreira have ruled on the matter.
Since December 5, there has been a measure prohibiting the use of Los Canales, Lido and Cangrejo beaches due to the presence of crude oil on the coast; of which the causes of its appearance are still unknown. In principle, the natural spaces were closed by 72 hours although later the decision was made to restrict access by undefined time until the environmental sanitation work has been done.
Professor at Simón Bolívar University Edward Kleinwho monitors PDVSA spills in different regions of Venezuela, assured that the oil stain on the Anzoátegui beaches extends for about 5 kilometers.

The director of the Avista environmental foundation, Gaizkale Garay, stated on December 7 in Circuito Éxitos her presumption about what happened due to the opacity of PDVSA in this regard. She believes that what happened was that there was an overflow of the containment lagoons of the oil facilities near the beaches. “This weekend a stick of strong water fell (…) On other occasions, the lagoons overflow because the level of liquid in the containers exceeds.”
