Onemi declares a Red Alert in Viña del Mar after a fire registered in the Botanical Garden

The National Emergency Office (Onemi) declared a Red Alert for the Viña del Mar commune after the forest fire registered in the dependencies of the Botanical Garden of the city.

According to preliminary information, the incident has already managed to consume four hectares of grassland, scrub and eucalyptus. Meanwhile, the flames are close to inhabited places.

Onemi affirmed that “all the necessary and available resources will be mobilized, in additional support to what has already been deployed by Conaf, Firefighters and the National System for Prevention and Response to Disasters (Sinapred); in this way, action will be taken to control the situation, given the extent and severity of the event”.

The fire is erected in the vicinity of the Federico Santa María University, while the wind conditions are not favorable to facilitate the work of firefighters.
