Lima, (EFE).- The new president of PeruDina Boluarte, assured this Saturday that the fundamental lines of her Government will be to consolidate democracy and governability, minutes after taking the oath of her first cabinet, three days after assuming the head of State to replace Pedro Castillo, arrested and accused to attempt a coup.

Immediately afterwards, he made a “fraternal call for calm, tranquility and social peace” in Peru, after the protests that have left at least seven detainees and eight injured in the last few hours.

Boluarte became president last Wednesday, after Castillo was dismissed by Congress, in response to a measure announced by the then president that ordered the closure of Parliament, the formation of an emergency executive, the Government by decree, the reorganization of the judicial system and the convocation of a constituent assembly.

These measures were mostly considered a coup, including by Boluarte, who held the vice presidency at the time and who was elected in 2021 in the candidacy headed by Castillo.
