Minsal calls for calm due to cases of bird flu in the north of the country: “There is no evidence of transmission between people”

A few days after the presence of bird flu was detected in the north of the country, the Ministry of Health (Minsal) called “not to be alarmed” but to be “vigilant”, since there is currently no evidence of transmission between people .

The head of epidemiological surveillance of communicable diseases of the Minsal, Iván Ríos, indicated that the institution “is adopting all the corresponding sanitary measures and keeps its surveillance system active.”

“Although the H5N1 influenza virus can affect people, the risk of transmission is only for those who are exposed to handling dead birds. Currently, there is no evidence of transmission between people,” he added to Emol.

In this line, the recommendation for all those who are exposed to working with birds is to maintain the use of personal protection elements, especially when handling those that die.
