The Chilean National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin) reported that the Lascar Volcano began an eruptive pulse in the Antofagasta region.
The volcano, located in the San Pedro de Atacama commune, 30 kilometers from the town of Talabre, produced an earthquake at around 12:36 p.m., which is associated with the fluid dynamics inside it.
The event was such that it generated the emission of a column of ash that has reached 6,000 meters in height, which has dispersed in a southwesterly direction.
As a result of the fact, from Sernageomin they indicated that they are already carrying out surveillance of the volcano, being -for the moment- on “green alert”.
However, the regional Emergency Operations Committee in San Pedro de Atacama was activated, and the respective coordination is already being carried out with the town of Talabre in the event of an eventual evacuation of its inhabitants.
