Today is International Animal Rights Day

The declaration of animal rights consists of the following items:

Article No. 1

All animals are born equal before life and have the same rights to existence.

Article No. 2

a) Every animal has the right to respect.

b) Man, as an animal species, cannot claim the right to exterminate other animals or to exploit them, violating that right. He has the obligation to put his knowledge at the service of animals.

c) All animals have the right to human attention, care and protection.

Article No. 3

a) No animal will be subjected to mistreatment or cruel acts.

b) If the death of an animal is necessary, it must be instantaneous, painless and not cause anxiety.

Article No. 4

a) Every animal belonging to a wild species has the right to live freely in its own natural environment, terrestrial, aerial or aquatic, and to reproduce.

b) Any deprivation of liberty, including that for educational purposes, is contrary to this right.

Article No. 5

a) Every animal belonging to a species that traditionally lives in the human environment has the right to live and grow at the pace and in the conditions of life and freedom that are typical of its species.

b) Any modification of said rhythm or said conditions that were imposed by man for commercial purposes is contrary to said right.

Article No. 6

a) Every animal that man has chosen as a companion has the right to have the duration of his life be in accordance with his natural longevity.

b) The abandonment of an animal is a cruel and degrading act.

Article No. 7

Every work animal has the right to a reasonable limitation of the time and intensity of work, to a restful diet and rest.

Article No. 8

a) Animal experimentation that implies physical or psychological suffering is incompatible with animal rights, whether it involves medical, scientific, commercial experiments, or any other form of experimentation.

b) Alternative techniques should be used and developed.

Article No. 9

When an animal is raised for food, it must be fed, installed and transported, as well as sacrificed, without causing it anxiety or pain.

Article No. 10

a) No animal should be exploited for recreation of man.

b) Animal exhibitions and shows that use animals are incompatible with the dignity of the animal.

Article No. 11

Any act that involves the death of an animal without need is a biocide, that is, a crime against life.

Article No. 12

a) Any act that involves the death of a large number of wild animals is genocide, that is, a crime against the species.

b) Pollution and destruction of the natural environment lead to genocide.

Article No. 13

a) A dead animal must be treated with respect.

b) Violent scenes, in which animals are victims, must be prohibited in the cinema and on television, except if they are intended to show violations of animal rights.

Article No. 14

a) Organizations for the protection and safeguarding of animals must be represented at the governmental level.

b) The rights of the animal must be defended by law, as are the rights of man.
