The relatives of the peasant leader and once again a political prisoner Medardo Mairena They were able to visit him for the twelfth time at the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote” in Managua, a torture center where he has been held for 17 months.
The visit to the former presidential candidate and other hostages occurred after the Police at the service of the Daniel Ortega regime reported through press release 088-2022, that on the occasion of the Purísimas and Gritería festivities “the people in shelter” In “El Nuevo Chipote” they have been and will be receiving special visits from their relatives between December 7 and 8.

In a post via the Facebook page Medardo Mairena Sequeira. The relatives of the political prisoner detailed that “yesterday (Thursday) December 8, the day of the Immaculate Conception, we had the blessing of visiting our dear brother and peasant leader Medardo Mairena in El Chipote.”
After four hours of visiting the political prisoner, his family reported that “the deplorable physical deficiencies persist, including his low weight”, however they assure that the “commitment, conviction, spirit of faith” of the opponent “remain high.”
After 17 months he manages to see his seven-year-old daughter
During the visit, Medardo Mairena received a visit from his seven-year-old daughter, whom he had not seen for 17 months.
The meeting between father and daughter -according to their relatives- was very moving and mixed feelings, where the tears and laughter of both prevailed.
“We thank Jesus our Savior and his Holy Mother for hearing our prayers and allowing Medardo to finally see his daughter under the age of seven after 17 months of being unjustly imprisoned,” they said.

For his part, Alfredo Mairena, Medardo’s brother, told Article 66 that this meeting was very special, “although they should never have been separated, but because my brother has fought to demand justice and democracy in our country, he took him to jail and that has caused the relationship between father and daughter to be hindered” .
Mairena said that the entire family of the prisoner of conscience is happy to have seen him; At the same time, he pointed out that despite the persistence of circulation problems in one of his knees, Medardo “continues to resist and calls on all Nicaraguans to resist and pray a lot to God, fighting for the freedom of Nicaragua, since that has always been the main objective of the fight.
“As a relative of Medardo Mairena, I demand his immediate freedom because we know that he is not a criminal and freedom is an inalienable right of all human beings and no dictator can come to take away our freedom simply because he wanted to,” he concluded.
The relatives of the peasant leader affirmed that they continue to pray “especially in this season of Advent for the health and liberation of our brother and that of all prisoners of conscience.”
Sentenced to 13 years in jail
After the second capture of Mairena, the Ortega court accused him of the alleged crimes of “carrying out acts that undermine independence, sovereignty, and self-determination, inciting foreign interference in internal affairs, requesting military intervention, organizing with financial of foreign powers to carry out acts of terrorism and destabilization”, according to Law 1055, Sovereignty Law.
The 44-year-old hostage of conscience faced a judicial process described as “illegal” on February 9 of this year in “El Nuevo Chipote” in Managua. On the 18th of the same month, a sentence was handed down, sentencing him to 13 years in prison.

At the end of August, the Ortega dictatorship exhibited him and other political prisoners in the Managua courts for supposed informational hearings. In the images disseminated by the government propaganda media, it was possible to verify the physical deterioration that he presents.
After this visit, the Ortega Police announced that in this month of December “other similar visits will be carried out, sharing the Christmas and New Year’s Eve Traditions,” without specifying at what time or for which people.
