FAN officials disabled a clandestine airstrip that had been installed in the Catatumbo de Zulia municipality, which is why around 50 have been destroyed so far this year. The head of Ceofan, Domingo Hernández Lárez, affirmed that an invading Tancol plane was prevented from landing
Members of the National Armed Forces (FAN) intercepted in Zulia an aircraft that entered Venezuelan air territory with the alleged intention of carrying out drug trafficking activities.
The information was released on Thursday, November 11, by the strategic operational commander of the FAN, Domingo Hernández Lárez, who assured that it was a “Tancol plane” that tried to land on a clandestine runway.
“In Zulia state, Catatumbo municipality, Tancol invading plane violating our sovereignty, when trying to land on a clandestine runway unused by the FAN, tops off and is destroyed,” he said in a Twitter post.
“Tancol” is an acronym invented by the Executive that does not allude to any specific gang and that means “Colombian drug-trafficking armed terrorists.”
With this action, the FAN accumulates 42 aircraft neutralizations in similar situations so far in 2022. According to Hernández Lárez, these planes would have to do with drug trafficking activities.
As part of the action against drug trafficking, nearly 50 clandestine airstrips installed by drug traffickers to receive planes have also been disabled.
However, the FAN authorities do not share information about the people involved in these alleged drug trafficking schemes that they are fighting.

Only in the last month, the FAN has intercepted six aircraft. The 42 neutralizations give an average of four actions of this type per month.
Attempts to develop drug trafficking activities seem to be especially strong in Zulia, which is why the FAN carries out patrol work in the state, in an attempt to prevent this territory from being used as a “platform to extract products that harm humanity,” according to indicated Hernandez Larez.
