A group of organizations made up of Churches, NGOs and Neighborhood Councils request the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, to create a shelter for cancer patients, with the aim that patients suffering from the disease and who reside inside can stay while they receive their therapies.
Speaking as spokesperson and president of the movement, Filomena Pérez, stated that as is known, cancer is one of the most catastrophic diseases in the world for those who suffer from it, who, in addition to the cruel physical and emotional consequences, have to face the high costs of the medications and treatments.

He noted that according to statistics from the Rosa Emilia Sánchez de Tavares National Cancer Institute in the Dominican Republic there are about 3,700 diagnosed cases and a death report of 1,702 per year.
“Of these more than 3,000 patients a year, of which according to projections at least 20% reside in the interior of the country, who have to travel to Santo Domingo to receive medical assistance, of this group that travels from the interior , dozens do not have relatives or relatives where to stay in the capital while they receive their therapies, which represents a true human drama, ”he lamented.
