Pope Francis received the new ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Ian Carlos Torres Parra, before the Holy See, in Rome on the occasion of the presentation of Letters of Credence.
The new representative of Venezuela in the Vatican is a theologian and biblical scholar, college professor of great prestige. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy at the “Cecilio Acosta” Catholic University (Maracaibo, 1999); He completed his Baccalaureate in Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome, 2004) and at the same PUG he also obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Theology and a Doctorate in Biblical Theology, concluding his studies in 2017.
He also obtained the following master’s degrees: in Political Action and Citizen Participation in the Rule of Law, in the University “Francisco de Vitoria” (Madrid 2001); Expert in Promotion and Management of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), at the Complutense University (Madrid, 2001); Course for Diplomats, at the Gregorian Foundation and the Jacques Maritain International Institute (Rome – Turin, 2010), reviews International Agencies.
He has held the following positions: Secretary, Minister Counselor and Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy in Italy (2008-2010); Minister Counselor and Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy in Colombia (2010-2018); Professor of Biblical Theology at the Javeriana University of Bogotá (2013-2014); Professor of Biblical Theology at the San Bonaventura University of Bogotá (2013-2017); Professor of Biblical Theology at the “Cecilio Acosta” Catholic University of Maracaibo (2021-2022); Vice Chancellor for Research and Head of the Doctoral Program in Theology at the Catholic University of Santa Rosa de Caracas (2020-2022).
