“Mr. Mayor (Jhonny Fernandez) keep your word, employment stability for 1,200 colleagues”, read one of the signs carried by the workers of the urban cleaning company Vega Solvi, who arrived early this Friday (December 9) at Manzana Uno to request the renewal of their contracts.

Santos Reyes Farell, relations secretary of the Union of Urban Cleaning Workers, said that they are in a emergency situation due to labor instability in the sector “due to the breach of the mayor’s word with us, the workers.”

According to their statements, the new company that was awarded the contract for a sector of the city in the recent tender, supposedly, is recruiting staff for the next management without respecting the commitment to renew contracts for eight years with the current employees of Vega Solvi.

“He has a commitment to us (with the union), that he (the mayor) fulfill us. We have complied by working hard and responsibly supporting his management,” Reyes said in the middle of the protest.
