The Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU), the Confederation of Business Chambers of Uruguay and the Inter-Union Plenary of Workers-National Workers Convention (PIT-CNT), signed a agreement to carry out actions against sexual exploitation, within the framework of the National Day against the Sexual Exploitation of Boys, Girls and Adolescents.
The agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister of Labor, Pablo Mieres; the president of INAU, Pablo Abdala; the president of the business chamber, Juan Martínez Escrich, and the head of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala.
On the occasion, Pablo Abdala pointed out that this agreement is a positive signal from all the actors that participate in the labor market, in favor of the well-being of children and adolescents.
He explained that, through the signed document, all parties agree to develop common actions to raise awareness on the subject. In this sense, he indicated that in order to combat this situation it is necessary for the participation of government actors and social, union and business areas.
For his part, Mieres highlighted the commitment of all the organizations that signed the agreement, since this situation affects and marks the lives of children and adolescents.
Agreement Features
This document seeks to sensitize the main social agents for the detection of cases of sexual exploitation of girls, boys and adolescents.
There will also be training in different workplaces and recipient populations on the problem, the legal framework and the approach devices. In addition, campaigns aimed at the general population will be implemented to strengthen information mechanisms and follow-up on eventual situations of commercial sexual exploitation.
Likewise, other concrete actions on the problem will be promoted by the signatory entities: Government, employers and workers.
The agreement establishes that, in the event that any organization identifies that an official is involved in the aforementioned situations of sexual or commercial exploitation, it must inform the competent authorities immediately.
