Under the name of the rising campaign “They are irreplaceable.” relatives of missing persons announced that they will carry out a March this Saturday to the Attorney General’s Office, where they will demand answers to the unresolved cases of “involuntary and forced” disappearances dating back up to nine years.
The group will meet at 4:00 in the afternoon at the intersection of Winston Churchill and 27 de Febrero avenues, in the National District, from where they will depart to the Attorney General’s Office.
Previously, the collective had called a demonstration at the same time at the Monument of Santiago, but decided to join the March In Santo Domingo.
People from large parts of the country are expected to attend this activity.
In addition to answers about their disappeared relatives, they will request the assignment of prosecutors to all the cases that rest in the Department of Missing Persons of the National Police, the provision of resources for these investigations and the urgent approval of the project of amber alert law, submitted in the National Congress by the deputy (PRM) Orlando Jorge Villegas.
The approval of this project would provide the country with a system that would allow the involvement of all security institutions and citizens in locating the disappeared.
campaign origin
“they are irreplaceable” was born as a result of the disappearance of Jesús Cuevas, who weeks later was found murdered. The search process for him impacted society, which expressed itself through social networks, and gathered dozens of families of disappeared in the month of October this year. After carrying out this activity, the attendees decided to continue the interaction and join forces to continue demanding the action of the Government in these cases.
