In an extraordinary session —and with the votes of the political advisers— the Codicen approved this Thursday the curriculum to be a secondary education teacher. It was the last document that needed to be approved to begin the election of teaching hours that will start only next Monday.
At the regular meeting on Wednesday there had been no quorum. The document had arrived for analysis around the time of the session, by email and with spelling mistakes. That is why the directors chose to delay the discussion that it was settled this thursday, without the support of the unions.
These new curricula for the teaching career, in theory, conform to the requirements that the Ministry of Education and Culture will impose to accredit these careers with university degrees (an old claim by teachers and professors).
Among The main changes suppose that the degree is divided by semester disciplines and a system of credits that facilitates the transit of the student body, closer to what already happens in university degree courses in the world.
However, the delays in drawing up the plans, the misconceptions and the lack of discussion were criticized by the teachers’ union, which asked that the choice of new hours be suspended. “The educational transformation in Training in Education shows every day the degree of improvisation, arbitrariness and lack of professionalism (…) we demand that the CFE does not start the choice of hours,” the union had said in a statement.
The Codicen did not give rise to the claims and this adjudication will begin on Monday, the first of a sequence that later includes Primary, Secondary and UTU.
This Friday the Codex has another extraordinary session, but to finish approving the compulsory basic education plan and the student evaluation system.
