Taliban carry out first public execution after taking over Afghanistan

This Wednesday, December 7, the Taliban carried out the first public execution since they took control of power in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the United States and NATO, against an Afghan national convicted of murdering another man five years ago and stealing his motorcycle and cell phone.

The information was confirmed by the main spokesman of the Taliban government, Zabihullah Mujahid, who announced that the execution took place in the western province of Farah in front of hundreds of spectators and many high-ranking Taliban, coming from both the capital, Kabul, and from that province.

He specified that it was done “with great care”, after the authorization of three of the highest-ranking courts in the country and the Taliban supreme leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada.
