Pedro Castillo "picks ahead" and dissolves Congress before discussing his vacancy

The Peruvian President Pedro Castillo announced this Wednesday, December 7, the temporary dissolution of the Congress of the Republic and the call for new parliamentary elections, in a message to the nation prior to the vote on the vacancy motion against it.

In addition, the head of state decreed a curfew for this Wednesday from 10:00 am (local time) until 4:00 am. “To convene in the shortest term elections for a new Congress with constituent powers to prepare a new Constitution within a period not exceeding nine months. As of that date and until the new Congress is established, it will be governed by decree law”, said the President.

Castillo also declared the “reorganization of the Justice system, the Judiciary, the Public Ministry, the National Board of Justice and the Constitutional Court.”
