At least two dead during a confrontation between the GN and armed gangs in Guárico

One of the deceased was identified as the chief supervisor of the Guárico Police, José Will Polanco, who was patrolling with three other officials in the Peña de Mota sector, in Altagracia de Orituco, when they were attacked by members of the Tren del Llano

At least two members of the Guárico State Police died during a confrontation between police and military forces with presumed members of the Tren del Llano gang in the Los Tanques de Altagracia sector of Orituco.

According to journalists who reported the event, one of the officials died after his commission was ambushed by the alleged antisocials in that sector. The clashes forced the deployment of troops from the National Guard, the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) and the Criminal and Criminal Scientific Investigation Corps (Cicpc).

Another of the deceased was identified as chief supervisor José Will Polanco, who was patrolling with three other officials in the Peña de Mota sector when they were attacked by members of the Tren del Llano.

So far there are no official statements on the number of arrests, injuries or deaths in this police procedure.

According to Insight Crime, the Tren del Llano was one of the first “megabands” to emerge in the country. This gang is dedicated to drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping and murder. It was also known by the gang name “el Picure,” the nickname of its founder, José Antonio Tovar Colina, one of Venezuela’s most wanted criminals until his murder by the National Guard in May 2016.

The group expanded to the Sucre state, in the eastern part of the country, but at the end of 2021 it was withdrawn through an operation by the security forces, which ended with the death of Gilberto Malony Hernández, alias “Malony”, its leader. In April of this year, the gang was once again the target of “Operation Thunder” after the attacks on agricultural producers in the state of Guárico.
